Cardano, the first L1 blockchain based on the peer-reviewed Ouroboros PoS consensus mechanism
Founded in 2015, Cardano is an open-source, decentralized L1 blockchain led by the Ethereum co-founder Charles Hoskinson. Cardano is created to facilitate peer-to-peer transactions with a layered architecture that facilitates smart contracts, enabling a platform that is both adaptive and scalable without having to compromise security.
Cardano uses the first peer-reviewed version of Proof-of-Stake called Ouroboros to secure the network and manage the block production process. ADA is the native token giving stakers a claim on new issuance in proportion to their holdings and allowing users to pay for transactions
The Cardano Foundation is based in Zug, Switzerland, with the core mission to standardize, protect and promote the Cardano Protocol Technology.
